Step 1. Fixed content is created by users on PC’s and laptops, and software applications residing on the network.

Step 2. Data is captured by Nexsan File System Watcher (FSW) or 3rd party application, such as a document management or email archiving application. Both file and retention policy is sent to the Nexsan Assureon Server.

Step 3. Assureon Server expands retention rules, assigns storage serial number, encrypts content, digitally signs metadata.

Step 4. Assureon Server converts file to single instance store object. Only stores one instance of object, multiple instances of storage request.

Step 5. Assigns disposition encryption key as required.

Step 6. Assureon Storage Manager writes asset to redundant storage locations.

File System Watcher (FSW) is a unique and powerful part of Assureon™.

FSW is a thin, client-based agent that runs on users’ file servers

FSW comes in two modes:

–Real-time mode – captures files as they are “closed”

–Scheduled mode – captures files based on a scheduled list, also adds versioning and HSM

FSW monitors a series of local directories or folders on the users’ file servers. Each directory or folder can have multiple different archiving attributes e.g.: Encryption and ILM (disposition date)

Three options for each folder or directory:

1.File is deleted from watched directory once it has been confirmed to be received by Assureon™

2.File is deleted and replaced with a link once it has been confirmed to be received by the Assureon™

3.File is left in place, but a copy is sent to the Assureon™

Additional interface options include: an API and a driver interface

–Driver interface enables full integration with applications (e.g.: ZipLip) with no need to change apps code
