Compaq StorageWorks 3U RM Enclosure
The 3U Rackmount Storage Enclosure is an external, rackmount,
ultra-dense tape enclosure that:
- Provides a backup and archiving solution
for Compaq ProLiant and Alpha servers in a rackmount direct
attach environment
- Provides customers with low-cost solution
for consolidating and managing their tape drives in an
ultra-dense rackmount space
- Provides Ease-of-Use features which allow
for easier access and management of Compaq tape drives
- Supports DAT, AIT, DLT, and SDLT Compaq
tape devices, providing the ultimate level of investment
protection
- 3U rackmount form factor provides a small
footprint solution that saves valuable space in the datacenter
- Ease-of-use features, including the top
access door and slide-out drive trays, provides for easier
access and management of Compaq tape devices

| Overview |
| The 3U RM Storage Enclosure
is a high-density, rack-mountable tape drive enclosure for direct-attach
SCSI backup and archiving applications. The enclosure provides customers
with dynamic scalability, allowing the customer to add and migrate to
new tape technologies as their capacity and performance needs grow.
Value-Add hardware features have been integrated which lower the
customer’s TCO and increase their efficiency in configuring,
implementing, and managing external storage resources.

autoloaders, or a combination of both. Customers can purchase the Model
0 and add existing or future internal tape drives as needed. Customers
may also purchase a Model 2 that is pre-configured with either two SDLT
110/220, DLT 40/80, or AIT 50 tape drives. This storage enclosure also
supports older single-ended SCSI tape drives such as the DLT 20/40-GB
and DAT 12/24-GB. |

units support Single-Ended and LVD SCSI tape drives including DAT, AIT,
DLT, and SDLT. |

| Capacity
|
| The maximum native capacity
is 320-GB with two DAT 20/40 8-Cassette AutoLoaders installed. With 2:1
compression, maximum capacity can reach up to 640-GB. |

| Performance |
| The maximum native data
transfer rate is 44 MB/s or 86.4 GB/hour with four AIT 50 tape drives
installed. With 2:1 compression, the maximum data transfer rate can
reach up to 172.8 GB/hour. |

| Dual Bus Configuration
|
| The standard bus
configuration includes 2 SCSI buses with support for up to 2 drives per
bus. Customers can purchase an LVD Cable Kit that will extend the unit
to 4 SCSI buses supporting 1 drive per bus and allowing for faster data
transfer. |

| Ease-of-Use Features |
| Each model includes two new
features designed to provide for easier access and management of
installed tape drives. The Top Access Door allows the customer to access
the drives (or drive area) while the enclosure remains within the rack.
Each unit also includes two Slide-Out Drive Trays that allow for easy
removal of the internal tape drives through the Top Access Door. |

compatibility with Compaq ProLiant™ and Alpha Servers and
