The Dot Hill Ultra48 SAN storage arrays provide high-density SAN storage options for HPC, Cloud, and Big Data applications.
Taking advantage of high-performance SAS and SSD drives and ultra computing power to deliver 6.4 Gibabytes/second performance, the Ultra48 can house up to 48 drives, increasing storage performance density by 200 percent within a 2-rackunit space.

The three extensible drive trays support a mix of 2.5-inch drives or SSDs allowing you to achieve ultra productivity.
For the energy conscious, Ultra48 High-Density SAN storage includes Dot Hill’s patented EcoStor, battery-free cache backup technology as well as energy saving drive spin-down.
Optional software features include a full complement of data protection software including snapshots, volume copy and remote replication.
Need additional data security on your drives? Dot Hill offers self encrypting drive (SED) capability that protects your data when removed from their original array. Available in 1.2TB small form factor (2.5”) or 4 TB large form factor (3.5”), these SED drives provide instant data destruction via cryptographic erase. In normal use, you do not need to maintain authentication keys (otherwise known as credentials or passwords) in order to access the drive’s data. The SED will encrypt data being written to the drive and decrypt data being read from it, all without requiring an authentication key from the owner.
When it’s time to retire or repurpose the drive, the owner sends a command to the drive to perform a cryptographic erase. Cryptographic erase simply replaces the encryption key inside the encrypted drive, making it impossible to ever decrypt the data encrypted with the deleted key.
The Dot Hill Ultra48 packs 48 SSD’s or HDD’s into a small 2U space. While other vendors offer ‘cheap and deep’ solutions, this array is designed for performance intensive applications that rely on high-performance small form factor drives.
Capacity, Power Savings and Space Savings
The industry-first Dot Hill ultra-density chassis houses nearly 58 terabytes of data on small form factor 2.5-inch hard disk drives (HDD), while utilizing 23% less power in an efficient 2U footprint. For high performance transaction workloads, the array can support any combination of solid state drives (SSD) and HDD drives in the same enclosure. This footprint also reduces weight by 25%, which is critical in crowded data center environments.
