Suitable for a wide variety of backup, archival and DR storage solutions, the IBM 3583 tape library features LTO technology to provide a great combination of high-performance, high-capacity tape storage.
With IBM multi-path architecture, you can define multiple logical libraries in a single IBM 3583, allowing multiple heterogeneous applications to share the tape library. In addition, the 3583 LTO library also offers optional control & data path failover, and redundant power supplies for autonomic resiliency and flexibility in SAN configuration. A bar code reader comes standard for quick media verification & inventory.
Configuration flexibility is offered, with the ability to choose between the 18-, 36-, or 72-slot configurations of the IBM 3583 tape library. Although it comes with a standard one-cartridge I/O station, you can expand to a 12-cartridge I/O station as needed.
Compatible with LTO2 or LTO3 drives, the LTO2 drive supports up to 35Mbps native data transfer, while the LTO3 drives support up to 80Mbps. The backwards-compatibility of the LTO3 drives mean you can enjoy the budget advantages of utilizing LTO2 and LTO1 cartridges, while experiencing the performance advantages of LTO3. In addition, the LTO3 drives in the 3582 support WORM functionality for long-term data retention requirements.
The IBM 3583 offers two attachment options, LVD Ultra160 SCSI or 2Gbps Fibre Channel, for interoperability with many open system servers. The 3583 LTO tape library also offers a remote management console that allows you to control and configure the system remotely via a web browser. You can also manage the 3583 tape library over SNMP as well.
IBM’s newest LTO tape solution that replaces the 3583, the TS3310, features expanded capacity as well as additional standard and optional features.
